Motorcycle Repair: Engine Oil Pressure Problem, engine oil viscosity, honda nighthawk 700s

Question
I have a 1984 Honda Nighthawk 700S, about 20,000 miles.  I have replaced oil pressure sensor, oil pump, all related o-rings, checked operation of bypass valve and I still have no oil pressure.  I damaged the oil pump when I retapped the oil drain plug.  The oil pump was scored from some metal shavings when I retapped the oil drain plug.  I lost oil pressure suddenly - one day the bike worked fine and the next I had no pressure on start up.
Thanks
Doug

Answer
Hi Doug,

How are you measuring oil pressure?

Have to say it... ensure oil capacity is within service limits.

If the oil pump is working properly, verify the oil ciruclation circuit is unobstructed. Refer to an oil flow chart in the service manual to view the circuit.
