Motorcycle Repair: Headlight, electrical tape, prongs

Question
Hi. I just changed the plastic box that my headlight wire leads plug into and then plugs into the leads of my headlight. On the back of the headlight are 3 metal prongs (top, left, right). For some reason, the prong on the left is heating up and burning out and melting my plastic box which in turn is burning out my lamp. I noticed a couple of small bare spots on the wires which I wraped with electrical tape. This is the second time I've had to change this box. The first time my light worked for 6 months. This time it burned out in 1 day. ?

Answer
There are two reasons for heat in a wire. One is a bad ground and the other is a short. Since you stated you found some bare spots I would keep looking for some more. Also, check the ground. It might be corroded and not making good contact.
good luck and happy riding
