Motorcycle Repair: 2003 yamaha big bear 400 4x4, bikebandit com, vent hoses

Question
(2003 yamaha big bear 400 4x4)
there is a small rubber hose coming from front&rear axle, while riding it leaks oil onto manifold, front of engine,&frame, why and is it normal? and is this some sort of overflow?
          Thanks

Answer
Hi Tom,

The hoses are breather vent hoses. Check fluid levels of front and rear differential hubs. Ensure water in not mixed with oil and oils are at proper levels.

The hose should not be leaking onto the manifold. Check hose integrity and replace if necessary. Check hose routing and adjust if necessary to prevent damages to hoses.

See microfiche parts on-line at: "www.bikebandit.com" and "www.yamaha-motor.com"

Visit. "www.atvfrontier.com" and check out the Message Board. Lots of great intel about ATV's here. A good resource that I count on.

I recommend the purchase of the Service/Repair Manual for yout ATV. The manual will pay for itself with the first home repair. Also, check your local library for manuals. My public library has manuals and they don't mind if the pages come back greasy. It's great!
