Motorcycle Repair: harley sx 250 enduro, harley sx, backpressure

Question
i have a harley 1975 sx 250 enduro.  the problem is that i can not start it because the kickstart does not have any backpressure against it.  when you push on the kicksart it mushes to the ground and the springs back up, on the way up you hear a clicking noise.  i took it apart and when i put it back together it got about 6 kicks in before it lost the backpressure and mushed to the ground again.  Before this problem the bike ran great so i would like to be able to start it up again, any help would be appreciated, Lou

Answer
Boy, I havent worked on one of these for about 15 years or longer. Not many around.
Sounds like your problem is the kicker isnt ingaging with the motor and that is why the motor is not turning over. Without looking at it it would be had for me to say what is wrong. I dont even have a service manual for this bike anymore.
I would suggest taking it apart again and inspecting every part for wear or damage. The problem you will have is if you need a part for the bike it will be hard to come by.
Sorry I couldnt be more help.
Mike
