Motorcycle Repair: 1997gsxr 600 carb problems, gsxr 600, needle holes

Question
Hi mark,
ive been told by a dyno tester that the carbs on my 1997 gsxr 600 have worn needle holes making it run rich between 2000rpm and 6000rpm,ive been informed that this is a common problem on these bikes and the only cure is to purchase new throttle bodies. The needles are as far down as possible. Are these worn parts in the carbs replaceable as i believe they are pressed in?

Answer
Hi Les,

The dyno results are accurate. Though I disagree with replacing the throttle bodies.

I think you're referring to the needle jet. This part wears oblong from front to rear, causing excessive fuel consumption (rich mix). This part is not pressed in and can be easily replaced if worn. I recommend replacing the needle jet and jet needle as a set.
