Motorcycle Repair: Primary leak, clutch body, dry clutch

Question
I have a 2001 scout. First, I have pretty extensive experience, but none with bikes.  There appears to be a leak from behind the clutch body where the transmission/drive shaft comes in. I thought I had a dry clutch, but after taking it apart I think it is a wet one.  I have disasembled by taking the Primary cover of and to clutch plate six bolts.  Now I am looking at one big nut.   When I turn it the transmission shaft and clutch housing turn.  Is there a secret to removing it or just keep the clutch housing from turning with a belt clamp and go for it?  When I reinstall the nut what should I tourque it to?

Thanks

Answer
The leak you describing is probably either the inner primary seal or the main seal on the trans. Either way the inner primary will have to come off to repair them. The nut you are talking about is a left handed thread. You will need a impact wrench to remove it. You will also have to remove the main sprocket nut. It is standard thread. You will have to remove the starter bolts and the bolts for the inner primary. Once the inner primary is removed you can see where the leak is.
Good luck and happy riding
