Motorcycle Repair: honda s-90, honda s90, electrical diagnosis

Question
the problem i have only happens when i running my lights for a while. the bike starts out fine and after a while it starts cutting out and dies, if iam coasting with the clutch out and turn the lights off the bike picks up and runs fine. I get back and test the battery and there is plenty of voltage like 6.35 volts so i know its not the battery.i was told to change to the radio shack diode to replace the exsisting rectifier, which i did and i know it is wired right.but still the same problem.I know it is something to do with the lighting circuit because the bike runs so good until night.thanks john

Answer
Hi John,

You'll have to perform electrical diagnosis via process of elimination to find the source of the problem. I suspect the magneto is not working properly.
