Motorcycle Repair: help!, yamaha dt125r, bikebandit com

Question
my bike is a yamaha dt125r, 1999. It has had no problems before and is completely standard, and I was riding it the other day when it cut out while riding, and sounded the same as when I start my bike up with the choke in before it is warmed up. This is my first bike and I am not that knowledgable about maintenance and repair, I have already taken the spark plug out and cleaned it. It has oil and petrol, any help on this would be greatly appreciated as I cannot take the bike to a garage because i have to walk it and it is quite a distance to the garage.

Answer
Hi Warren,

It's hard to tell what happened to cause the engine to stall. I would need to perform a few checks to learn the cause.

The best advice I can offer you is to buy a copy of the shop manual and follow the troubleshooting chart. The manual costs about $25 USD and will pay for itself with the first repair. Find manuals at www.bikebandit.com
