Motorcycle Repair: power commander ?, desirable colors, light shades

Question
i have a 2003 YFZR6, only modification performance wise is a Hindle slip on. i was told by a shop that i should get a power commander because the bike would be running lean and would eventually damage the motor. im not sure if they were right or just trying to sell me more stuff.thanx

Answer
Hi Fabian,

I'm not sure much tuning is necessary with just a slip on. Keep an eye on the appearance of the spark plugs. Desirable colors of light shades of browns mean plugs are working well and air-fuel mixtures are correct.

Performance is best when an engine is running just lean. It would need to be excessively lean before any damages occur.

Power Commanders allow tuning or mapping of the fuel injecton. I recommend the product when necessary. Contact Hindle and inquire if the recommend any tuning with their slip-on.
