Motorcycle Repair: clutch, clutch cable, turn the screw

Question
1977 fxe  recently had a new stater installed. now with clutch handle pulled in, and bike in gear it wants to move forward. i have tried to adjust the clutch cable in but i am unable to get slack in the cable and it slips if i go in to far. it also seems much harder to pull in the clutch handle thanks for your help.

Answer
Sounds like the clutch is out of adjustment at the coutch itself.
Remove the derby cover to see the clutch. Loosen the clutch cable, by putting slack in it. At the clutch, in the center, you will see a locknut and a screw. Loosen the locknut. Turn the screw inward, until it bottoms out. Then turn it out around a 1/8 of a turn. You dont want it touching. Tighten the locknut. Now adust the slack out of the cable and you should be set.
Good luck and happy riding
