Motorcycle Repair: head gaskets, fastener torque, bike bandit

Question
i bought an old kawasaki 250 i believe not really a huge bike know it all but anyway i didnt know hiw to ride it yet so i had my brother show me the basics so i could at least get a start on learning it. well my brother being the dork he is somehow managed to blow the head gasket out of the engine. everytime we would start it it would leak oil from the middle of the engine where its bolted together. so we caled a repai shop and they said it was a head gasket. well for them to fix it it would cost like 400 dollars so i was wondering if you could give me any hints on how to do it myself so im not stuck witha broken bike and no way to fix it. if you could then it would be greatly appreciated but if not then that sucks and thanks for your time.

Answer
Hi Brian,

There's too much to know about this repair to type here. You can get it all very easily by purchasing a repair manual. Find them on line for about $25 on average. You must have this manual to know fastener torque values, and other important disassembly/assembly information.

Visit: "www.bikebandit.com" and see michrofiche parts views on line. Bike Bandit also has repair manuals.

You'll need gaskets, Kawasaki Bond (not Permatex Blue), engine oil, and brake parts cleaner to clean engine surfaces.
