Motorcycle Repair: Yamaha clutch adjustment?, bikebandit com, clutch adjustment

Question
Hi Mark,
I've got a '76 Yamaha XS360. I replaced the clutch cable and adjusted to factory manual specs. The clutch will not engage untill the clutch lever is let out entirely. I,ve tried all manner of adjustments and cannot get it to work properly! Is there something I'm missing here? Could the cable be too long?, too short? or could I have dropped, lost or missplaced some part or parts? I'm at a loss!
Thanks for your time,   Chuck

Answer
Hi Chuck,

If you replaced the clutch cable or clutch, you may have a wrong cable, lack of clutch plates, or improperly assembled parts.

Compare part numbers on the following websites: "www.bikebandit.com" and "www.yamaha-motor.com" to see michrofiche parts views on line.

Otherwise, the cable may have stretched beyond it's service limits. This is considered normal wear for a cable.
