Motorcycle Repair: charging system 81 cb900c, regulator rectifier, cb900c

Hi there, My 81 CB900C continues with charging trouble..replaced the first dead regulator/rectifier--lasted a couple of weeks--the second one is dead open on all wires--do I have a really short problem with the alternator or what?

Hi Scott,

The winding insulation is likely brittle, cracked, non-insulating and the source of the shorting.

Replace the altenator and reg/rec.

Do you have the repair manual for your CB900? If not, obtain it and follow the testing procedures in the manual. I return test and repair files by email. There was no email with this question as requested.
