Motorcycle Repair: v-star oil filter, star oil, oil level

where would the oil filter be located on a 2000 v-star 650 custom and how would i determine the right oil level in the engine without a dipstick

Hi Ron.
 Unless Yamaha revamped how they configure all of their engines, the oil filter will be center foreward bottom of the engine.  In the V-star, it may be under a cosmetic cover under the engine.  The repair manual will show you more precisely.  Also the repair manual and the owner's manual,both, will show you the quantities of the oil as well as maintainence schedules.  There should be a sight glass on oe side or the other of the lower engine.  That will show the oil level.
