Motorcycle Repair: Problem with 2003 Honda hadow Spirit 750, honda shadow spirit, honda shadow spirit 750

2003 Honda Shadow Spirit 750. I went on about a 20 mile ride. Went ot see a movie and when I came out the bike didnt start on the first try. On the second, it started very rough and there was a loud pop. After that I started it and a loud compression like noise was coming from the engine and it would not keep running unless I was on the throttle. Can you give me some help?

Hi Eric.
 You may want to check the ignition system and the carbs.  You could have a short or bad component or loose connection.

 Test your ignition components in accordance with the testing specs in your repair manual, check for good connections through the entire ignition system as well as the fuses and fuse connections.

 After that, you may need to check the carbs for any loose or dirty components.  This becomes more important if the bike spends any time in seasonal storage.

Start there and let me know what you find.
