Motorcycle Repair: YSR50 Starting, air filter, fuse

Question
Falcon,

Thanks for your prompt reply on my earlier request about the YSR50. I chucked the air filter first thing so I know thats not the problem. Also removed the plug and poured a teaspoon of fuel into the hole. Didn't even sputter.

Still stumped.

Rick

Answer
Hi Rick.
Well the teaspoon of fuel would have flooded the cylinder, so it's no wonder it didn't fire then.

Have you tried spraying some automotive starting fluid into the intake and starting the bike?  If it doesn't start then, the problem is definitely electrical.

Start by looking for shorts and checking the components against the specs in the repair manual as well as the security and cleanliness of all of the connections in the ignition system as well as the fuse connections.

By your last description, you are getting spark when the plug is removed, so start by examining that part of the circuit.  Make triple sure of the connection to the coil when the plug is reinstalled.
Is the ignition wire on that coil permanently attatched?  If not, then that would be the place to start.

Good luck.
