Motorcycle Repair: static timing, stator coil, timing specs

i need to know the static timing specs on 81 honda XL185s AND if i need to have a battery even with a magneto.im having hard time getting it started any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated thank you

 Whether the bike has a stator coil or a magneto has no bearing on how hard the bike starts.

 As far as the timing specs, you should go to a Honda dealership, a good parts accessories shop, or online to get a manual.  The best online sites for a manual that I know are;

Check with those and get your repair manual.  It will be far more useful than the you know.
