Motorcycle Repair: carbuerator, adjustment screw, shovelhead

Question
Dear Mike,You solved a problem for me during the week pertaining to a 1982 shovelhead that had been stored for several years. The jets were clogged...big time. Now, my question is:looking at the carb side of the bike, there is an idle adjustment screw on the left side of the carb AND another screw on the RIGHT side of the carb. What is THIS screw & how do I set it til its dialed in.Numbers stamped on carb are: B79ETC24  &   27472-81  &  -0044   Thanks,Tony
p.s. Is this a Mikuni carbuerator?

Answer
Sounds to me like you have a stock Keihin carb. The screw on the right is for the pumper. What this does is pump more fuel into the bike when you crank on the throttle and keeps the bike from stumbling. It should be preset for your bike so dont turn it. If you have then what you need to do is ride the bike, stop and turning the screw in a little at a time until the bike doesnt stumble anymore.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
