Motorcycle Repair: shuts down, corbin seat, pain in the butt

Question
Hey Mike I really hope you can help!
I have an 04 superglide the only mod is a corbin seat.it's carburated and has about 4200 miles on it. The problem is that it shuts down in SEVERE rain situations I don't maen a drizzle or your normal rain I mean a storm that I probably have no business being out in anyway. Have been back to the dealer twice and they cannot duplicate. have personnslly power washed the bike (about 200psi) and I can't duplicate either but If I go thru a big enough puddle in the rain the bike shuts down the little oil can lites up and the headlight stays on but I have no throttle and it just stalls. If I sit a minute it will start back up and go down the road a piece before it happens again but once it starts it dose'nt stop until the bike is dry. Then it runs like a top.I have checked the intake at the air cleaner when it happens and that is dry,(even purposely sprayed it and still it ran) but on the road in a storm it stalls other bikes I've been with don't(so it's not that bad a storm) and the guys behind me have said the puddle isn't deep enough to suck back up the exhaust. No easy answers huh!

Have you heard of such a thing any suggestions? Thanks  Rob

Answer
This is a new one on me. Somthing in the wiring is getting wet and causing the problem. I would lean towards the ignition. The only way to solve the problem is to duplicate it so you can find it. Next time you ride in the rain and it shuts down remove the spark plug and holding it to the head turn the bike over and see if your getting a spark. If not then you know its a ignition problem. Using a test light see if there is any power to the coil. If not then its in the wiring somewhere.
I know what is happening is a pain in the butt, but this is about the only way to find it.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
