Motorcycle Repair: dead battery, meter check, volt meter

Question
Mike
Have 01 FXST with orig battery. Got on it after 2 weeks and lights worked but would not start. celinoid just clicked. Jumped it from a running car.

Got on went for quick 50 mile ride. Came home turned it off, and tried a restart  immed restart- same stuff. Lights and guages ok but celinoid just clicked. Getting new battery at stealer on Monday. Is there anything else I need to be worried about. Fuses and all else seem to be ok. May have escaped the bullet on this. Thanks in advance.

Answer
What you need to do after replacing he battery is check to see if the bike is charging. Start the bike and with a volt meter check at the battery. You should be getting around 13.5 volts at 2000 RPM. If not ehn either your regulator or stator is bad. You can test your stator if you have a OHM meter and a AC volt meter. Not to many people have a AC volt meter.
A word of advise. Do not just start your bike from a car. The voltage from the car is to great from the battery and you are taking a chance of blowing up the battery from the bike.
Good luck and happy riding
