Motorcycle Repair: No Power - 1985 Honda Vf500 Interceptor, honda vf500, fuse protection

Question
I know its not vintage, but Ii love this bike.  Last weekend, i was coasting to a stop in my drive when i stalled the engine, and then all electrical power cut out. No horn, lights instrument panel etc.  I checked the main fuse - seems ok no break.  Also checked battery  - fully charged.  cleaned the battery cocntacts, and checked the fuse controlling ignition switch - also ok. my next guess is the ignition switch or the kill switch.  I know very little about electrical, so not sure how to check these, and both are hard to find replacements for.  Any help greatly appreciated.

Answer
Steve, these are lovely bikes and I really enjoyed riding them back about 15 years ago.

There is a 30A metal fusible link, mounted adjacent to the starter solenoid, as I recall, probably under a small cover or out in the open. It has an open end like an wrench and one hooked end. That is the master fuse protection for the whole bike. After that you have that main fuse, then power goes to the handlebar fuses, etc.

Log into: http://www.powersportspro.com/ and select the VF500 Interceptor microfiche for some illustrations.

It is not unknown for the back of the igntition switches to come apart or the plug in connector to break up, so do look there, as a lot of movement goes on with that component when the handlebars are moving back and forth.
The contact base can be ordered separately from the whole ignition switch lock set.
