Motorcycle Repair: stolen keys, suzuki gsx600f, meta system

Question
Hi again Chris,

Well, I didn't have much luck with getting a replacement key. The chain of uk dealerships I bought the bike from has gone out of business, and there's no way of finding out my key code apparently.

I've been in touch with a locksmith who says he can make me some keys if I take him the ignition barrel. Do you have any advice on how to remove this? I've never tried anything like it before, and want to avoid causing more damage with my efforts!

I also looked on the website of my alarm provider, and it seems to suggest I won't be able to order a replacement for the remote I lost (it's a meta system). It seems I'll just have to have the system cut off the bike and start all over again. Any last alternatives before I go down that route?

Thanks again for your help.

Kind regards

Phil

Hello,

I have a '99 Suzuki GSX600F with alarm and immobiliser, and my one set of keys, plus alarm fob, has been stolen.

Can you tell me any relatively affordable way to get my bike going again please?

Thanks very much for your time.

Hi Phil.
Contact the dealership regarding the bike key.  There is a serial number on the ignition switch which you can use to order a eplacement key.  The alternative is to get a replacement ignition switch which will come with 2 matching keys.

For the alarm, you should contact the manufacturer with the model and serial number of the unit and order a replacement key that way.

Good luck.

Answer
Hi Phil.
Ignition switch removal is time consuming, but simple.  You will need to remove any components that are in the way of the underside of the upper portion of the triple-tree assembly.

Usually, once access is clear, it is only a matter of disconnecting the plug and removing 2 mounting bolts (sometime nuts) from under the ignition switch.
You'll see what I am talking about when you look at the ignition switch assembly.

Good luck.
