I know this may sound a really stupid and easy question to you and i appologise for my lack of knowledge. My Haynes manual told me to use a certain type of spark plug but when i went to a local bike shop they gave me the next grade up.i know that putting lower grade spark plugs in can damage the engine but can putting a better specification in cause any damage?

Hi Andy,

Do you mean a hotter or colder range spark plug? I'm confused about the "grade" of plug. Are you using the same name brand of plug, just a different number?

What is the year, make, and model of your motorcycle. So I can tell what plug is used.

What is your email address? I often reply by email with information files.

Respectfully,

The spark plugs are the same make, but ive been given a hotter grade to fit...the bike is a Honda CBR600 F-L 1990...

Answer
Thanks, Andy

Try and use the specified heat range recommended for your MC. Go up or down as necessary to assist with carb tuning.

The engine should be ok. Keep an eye on the condition & color of the plugs. Want to see light brown/tan colors on insulators.

The shop must have been out of the normal plug.
