Motorcycle Repair: Retrieving and adjustment screw, honda rebel 250, engine crankcase

Question
Chris,
My husband has a 1985 Honda Rebel 250.  The valve adjustment screw came loose and fell down in the motor.  What is the easiest way to find and retrieve this screw?

Answer
Hi Brandi.
If it fell into the cylinder, then you need to remove the valve and get in there with a probe to pick it up.  Or you have to remove the upper head.  Those are the options for that possibility.

If it fell into the engine crankcase, then you could have problems.  You could drain out the oil and hope that it's in there (use a cloth to filter the part from the oil and do not reuse the old oil).  It may not come out with the old oil and then your only option is to split the case to extract the bolt, which requires removal of the engine and can be quite expensive to have done.

Let me know what happens.
Good luck.
