Motorcycle Repair: Starter relay hook up, starter relay, gs1100

Question
I have recently purchased a 1983 GS1100 and it is missing the starter relay, I purchased a relaybut don't know how the wire reconnect.  What wire goes on which post? The positive battery cable goes on which post on the relay

Answer
Hi Tom,

It's an electromagnet, polarity doesn't matter. When 12VDC is applied the the relay's windings via the small lead, magnetism causes a metal contact to move inside the relay and connect with the battery and starter contacts. Current flows from battery to starter.

Hold the relay where it goes on the MC. The cables may have a "memory" of where they are routed. fasten cables to the relay accordingly. Secure relay to the place it belongs. Start engine.
