Motorcycle Repair: motorcycle been unused for 2 years, kawasaki gpz, starter solenoid

Question
i own a kawasaki gpz 500s 1999 model, its has been garaged for two yrs and has not been started in that timespan I have replaced the battery and tried to start the bike with the starter. The starter just clicks, is it jammed? Could you please give me some tips on how to get the bike back on the road. The bike has done 4000mls.You're help would be much appreciated. Many thanx Neil.

Answer
Hi Neil,

Although new, the battery may not sufficient power to turn the engine over. A good indication of this is the starter solenoid clicks as described. Trickle charge the battery overnight and try restarting the engine.

Gasoline in the carburetors may have varnished, too. If so, this requires removing and thoroughly cleaning the carbs.

Consider an oil and filter change.
