I have a Kawasaki KX400 and I have no spark. This condition was prexisting when I got it. I can kick it over and push the kill swicth and get one arc across the sparkplug and this will always happen if tried. I tried all that I can think of and other advice. Can you help?

Hi Jeremy,

From the limited information given, I suspect the CDI or pick-up coil may be defective.

Well what other info would you need. I put a multimeter on the wires coming off the magneto and cdi box put it on 10 volt dc setting and kicked it over and the needle will move, not much it only will read about 1 or 1.5 volts dc. I also checked continuity on all the wiring and checked all the grounds. To me it seems like when you push the kill switch it is opening a ground up or something is groundingthen instead of when it should. Does this make any sense? Any advice on how to diagnose this problem?

Answer
Jeremy,

Start by reading the directions for asking a question. They are posted above and below the window where we type our questions.

I need to know the year, make, and model of the MC. I need an email address for returning answer and follow-up, which usually includes several pre-typed documents on testing and repair info. (I don't have time to type these long documents every time someone asks. I pre-type them and send them. That's what makes this service possible.)

I can't research parts, problems, or warranty history without certain info. and may require the VIN in some cses.

Any history on repairs, modifications, or details leading up to the current problem helps me accurately diagnose the problem. You get what you give.
