Motorcycle Repair: Kawasaki ZX6R, kawasaki zx6r ninja, battery problem

Question
I have a 96 Kawasaki ZX6R Ninja and for the first time ever it just won't start.  For the first time ever, I also didn't winterize my bike (actually 2 winters in a row since it hasn't moved since late '01). I tried to jump the battery (brand new in Aug. '01) and it wouldn't turn over at all.  Is this a battery problem?  Are the carbs fouled up?  I just wanted an opinion before spending big bucks to take it to the shop.

Answer
Hi Brian.
The bike turning over has nothing to do with the carbs.  You should check the battery with a hygrometer.  Chances are you need a new battery.  Check your fuses and connections to the starter motor.

Since you didn't winterize the bike, you will want to have the carbs properly cleaned as well.  Also replace the fuel that was in the tank and reseal the tank.

Good luck.
