Motorcycle Repair: electrical trouble, electrical trouble, hitting the ground

Question
I recently had gotten struck on my 1995 Sportster. I was not going fast but the other person was. Not that bad of an accident but the impact of hitting the ground bent my bars, broke the mastercylinder clean off the bar, and the peg out of the sprocket cover. The wires running from the turn switch and start button were severed. They have been repaired and so has everything else. Now I have a gremlin living in the old sporty. Occasionally I will lose power at the headlight and the bike will bog down. When I release the gas the bike will idle normally and the headlight will return to normal but if I hit the gas the same thing will happen. I have checked the coil and actual ignition switch where the key goes, checked the continuity of the repaired wires and other things. any suggestions? Sporty is down, need help! Or a site where I could find similar help or schematics. thanks,Josh
p.s. it used to be an 883 now a 1200

Answer
Your getting a ground fault somewhere in the bike. What you are going ot have to do is get the bike to do it when you are sitting still so you can start tracing the wires. I would say, start be removing the cover and let the wires hang and go for a ride and see if you have the same problem. If your looking for a schematic, the best ones you can get are in the harley repair manual.
I was just wondering, did you have the bike repaired at a shop or did you do it yourself? If a shop did it then you should have gotten a warrenty with it.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
