Motorcycle Repair: 2 stroke wont fire, sediment bowl, vent tube

Question
Bike details: 1996 kawazaki kx80 (2 stroke)

Dilema: stopped running whilst in use

Aftermath: wont fire up (even tried a teaspoon full of petrol straight into head), plug is sparking, cranks over fine with no plug, feels a bit strange when plug fitted back in & cranked over, after a new plug & many attempts it fired for a split second.

My thoughts: damaged piston ring or clutch, i am no good at the diagnostics, all i can do is to ask advice, buy the bits, fix the possible problem, hope for the best..

Many thanks, another all experts member Jimmy Ray

Answer
Hi Jimmy,

A couple of things to do or check:

Inspect air filter, clean or replace as necessary.
Consider de-carbonizing the exhaust pipe.
Inspect fuel petcock sediment bowl for contaminants.
Inspect fuel tank vent hose and cap vent tube.
Check fuel in carburetor float bowl for conantimants.
Perform a cylinder compression test.
Check for loose wiring connectors, kill switch, tether kill switch, and damaged wires.

Visit "www.bikebandit.com" click "OEM Parts" and enter your KX80's info to see microfiche parts on line.

You'll have to investigate the possibilities, Jimmy. Avoid putting gasoiline directly into the cylinder.

Try what you can with these and advise.

Respectfully,
