Motorcycle Repair: Bike is sticking in gear., honda cb 750, clutch lever

Question
Riding a Honda CB 750 (1970) and having the following problem:  it intermittently sticks in gear.  No matter how hard you push the clutch lever, it will not go up or down.  Sometimes letting the engine slow down will force it to pop out of gear.  This tends to happen after being in one gear for a long time. Any ideas where we should look in the bike to see if we can fix it?
Thanks!

Answer
Deb,
Barring any internal crankcase ills, you make have a dragging clutch.  Be sure the cable is adjusted correctly and you have a little free play but not to much.  If you have too much or the cable is damaged you may not be dissengauging the clutch fully.  Also, check your oil level you may be running very low.  Other than this you may have worn forks or dogs, this requires spliting the case, a very involved job.

Hope this helps,
Mike
