Motorcycle Repair: Tach stopped working, honda cb400t, problem thanks

Hi Chris,
        I have a 1981 Honda cb400t Hawk. The other day I installed a set of new pipes on my bike and when I went to start it up I noticed the tach wasn't working. It worked fine before but now it will only go up to about 2,000 rpms and then when i let off the gass it slowly drops back down. I checked the cable and can't find any thing wrong. Do you think that it just broke or is there somthing else that could be causing this problem?                Thanks Alot...Jim

Hi Jim.
 If you never did anything to the cable, then the only thing that it could be is either the cable decided to break or something else in the tach system broke.  I would imagine that it was just coincidence.  Hey....sometimes it happens.
