Motorcycle Repair: 98 honda VT1100 coolant leak, honda shadow spirit, metal spring clip

Question
Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I looked at the water pipe drawing for my bike and the part I am talking about is item #3, the water joint. Is this what you are refering to also? It doesn't make sense to me if there is enough room to pull it out. Thanks again,
Georges

Hi,
I have a 1998 Honda Shadow Spirit, VT1100,and I have developed a coolant leak from the crossover, located between the front cylinder and the rear cylinder under neath the carberator. It has a metal spring clip on either side of it. How do you repair this and what is involved? Is complete engine disasembly required or can you just pop the clips off and somehow get that tube out? Also do you replace the tube or are there o-rings?
Thanks for your help,
Georges

Hi Georges,

I'm not sure of the exact procedure to remove the coolant pipes. I remember removing the fasteners and pulling the pipes without removing the heads. I don't recall what needs to be removed. It's been a few years.

At Honda, we lubed the orings well upon reinstallation to assist with sealing.

Answer
Hi Georges,

I was referring to the longer tubes. You may have to start the task and see what is involved as you go. I don't remember that paticular work and the details associated with it. Sorry! They're well designed cycles. : )

Please keep me advised of your progress.
