Motorcycle Repair: Yamaha xt 600e, xt 600e, cam chain

 I have an yamaha xt660e-1997. It has done, to the best of my knowledge. 15500 km ( I live in Lisbon) It is in very good condition throughout but I think that noise fron the tappets is loud. I can't find any info ( no workshop manual available) to show me how to adjust them. I think I know how, but I am scared to attempt it without some guidance. Also how do I know wether the cam chain is adjusted properly? One last thing, what is the best engine oil for a big single ?

Hi Colin.
 A lot of what you are asking is specs questions and I do not have the specs and details on every bike out there.

However, for a manual, I can point you in the right direction.  See, no matter how the valves are adjusted, there is a very small range of gaps for the adjustment and that info is only in the manual, which will also have answers to all of your other questions as far as cam chain tensiner adjustment, oil grade and quantity, etc.
