Motorcycle Repair: evo clutch adjustment, clutch adjustment, locknut

Question
Hi,Mike. How do I adjust the clutch on a 1340 evo?I read the service manual many tines and I miss the point of adjustment somewhere in there.Any tips and help will be greatly appreciated.I ride a 1996 flhtci electra glide.

Answer
First thing you need to do is loosen the locknut on the cable and turn the adjuster so it will shorten the cable. You will need some slack in the cable.
Now remove the durby cover. You will need to either drain it or have somebody hold the bike upright so the primary oil doesnt run out.
Now loosen the locknut on the adjuster and turn the adjuster out a couple of turns. Now turn it inward, just until it touches. Then back out around 1/8 of a turn. Replace the durby cover. Now adjust the cable outward until you have around 1/8 play in the clutch handle and tighten the locknut. Now your set to go.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
