Motorcycle Repair: Yamaha Carbs, air fuel mixture, reading files

I have recently bought a xs1100l, Midnight Special. I have rebuilt the carbs and they seem to be in good shape. My problem is that I will go through a set of spark plgs in a weeks time. Everyone I talk to says that the mixture is too rich. After re-dissassebling the carbs and looking for the adjustable clips on top of the needle, I found that,contrary to all the info that I have found, there is no adjustment alloud.The needle has only one groove for a clip. Unfortunately, these parts are not availible anymore, so I am stuck. Any help would be appreciated.

I agree, sounds as if the air-fuel mixture is excessively rich. Review the files and learn how to adjust the mix.
