Question
The bike is making a rattling noise while the bike is in neutral. Ive changed the clutch friction plates, and the noise is still there . when the bike is in gear there is no noise. Also when the bike is revving at a higher rpm you cant here the noise. noise is coming form shifter side not clutch side. It also clunks into gear and wants to take off on you. this is my first bike, maybe my last

Answer
Steven,

-get a piece of rubber hose and put one end
on the engine and the other on your ear.
-See if you can pinpoint the area the sound
is coming from.
-If your clutch is dragging it must need
some adjustment or something isn't right.
-The clutch basket has rivets in the back that could be
loose.
-If you take most of the slack out of your clutch
cable and the clutch still drags when pulled in,
the metal plates could be warped or the
clutch assembly is wrong.
-Did you soak the clutch plates in trans fluid
or oil before installing?
-Check the clutch basket and hub for wear grooves
and have a look at this webpage for some
tips:

Other than the clutch, it could be a noisy bearing
or trans gear. Try some 20W50 oil, see if it helps.
