Motorcycle Repair: front end wobble, wheel bearings, magna v45

Question
I get a front end wobble at about 45 miles per hour.  This only happens when I am not holding the handle bars tightly.  At lower speeds and higher speeds no issue.  Tire? Front forks?  No accidents, just been knocked over a couple of times.  Where do I start?

1985 Magna V45.

Answer
Hi Tom.
Front end wobble usually comes from one of three things.

1)  Wheel bearings.  (believe it or not, the rear) But check both front and back.

2)  Steering head bearings.

3)  Unbalanced wheel.  (also, almost always the rear wheel)

Get you wheels checked first.  If one is not balanced properly, then that is the easiest fix.  Then go to the wheel bearings and last the steering head.

Let me know what you find.
Good luck.
