Motorcycle Repair: The speedometer cable on my..., speedometer drive, speedometer cable

Question
The speedometer cable on my 1986 T-140 D S Bonne broke off where it enters the speedometer drive-gear at the rear wheel. My manual doesn't show how to install a new cable. What do I need to do and are there any pitfalls I need to be aware of in order to make this repair?

Thanks

That's a good question. I don't think I have ever met a '86 Triumph before. The factory went toes up in '84. The few that came out of England after that weren't all too common.

I can't say anything with authority except that you should mark carefully and take notes on disassembly. If your rigging is anything like the older ones, there are several washers and spacers and things that must not be reassembled in the wrong order or turned in the wrong direction. Also there may be a couple of things with notches that must mate. Other than that I can't say much more.  Common sense and care are the most important ingredients.
