Motorcycle Repair: carburetor, overflow pipe, float chamber

Question
Hi Mark, i have a 1996 wr 200r yamaha 2 stroke off road/enduro motorcycle.my problem is when its stationary with the fuel cock swithed on and the engine switched off fuel starts flowing from the overflow pipe on the bottom of the float chamber. i have stripped the carb and cleaned it,adjusted the float height but the problem still occurs, even when riding the bike slowly it wont run smoothly so its obviously getting to much petrol. is there any adjustment in the needle itself or must it be replaced with new,any tips or remedies would greatly appreciated. Cheers

Answer
Hi John,

I suspect the float valve (needle valve) has a ridge, groove, or debris causing it not to seat and seal, or causing it to remain partially open allowing fuel to flow continously.

Correcting this should also improve engine rough running.

Send me your email as requested. I'll return the files necessary to assist you make the repairs.

Visit www.bikebandit.com to view parts microfiche on-line. Once the page opens, click "OEM PARTS" and select your MC from the pull down menus.

If necessary, I have websites for carb parts, too.
