Motorcycle Repair: 1982 honda 750 chargeing system, stator coil, regulator rectifier

Question
Hello Chris. We have a 1982 honda 750 that doesnt charge. What is the most common repair. Wires are good. Batery fair. No burn or damaged look to rotor or fields. Rectifier isnt burnt on back. Thanks Doug Bolen

Answer
Hi Doug.
When the bike is running, what is the voltage that you are getting across the battery terminals?  If it is less than 13VDC, then the problem is likely to be the stator coil, anyway.  There should be a bench or static test proceedure for the regulator/rectifier.  Test that as well and see what you get from that test.

As long as there are no shorts (visible or internal, verified through a multimeter) and all of the battery's cells are in good condition, then the problem has to be in one of those components.

Let me know what you find.
Good luck.
