Motorcycle Repair: NO SPARK, plug cap, float bowl

Question
MY SON HAS A 1986 125 4 WHEELER ATV. HE WAS RIDING
IT AND JUST QUIT. NOT OUT OF GAS. CHECKED SPARK AT
PLUG. NO SPARK. CHECKED FOR VOLTAGE AT COIL. NO
VOLTAGE. CHECKED INLINE FUSE, IT IS GOOD. CAN YOU
HELP?

Answer
Hi Hinkle,

The sudden stopping of the engine can be as simple as a loose connector, or more expensive as a defective CDI unit. Check all electrical connectors. Check ignition pick up coil. Clean and reinstal spark plug. Spark plug cap should be tightly fastened to plug wire end.

It may be a obstructed fuel petcock, pinched fuel hose, float bowl vent, or other. It may be an obstruction with the air intake components.

You have to perform several tests to learn what happened and why. The above checks may help. If not, send me an email address as requested. I'll return additional info via Word files.
