Motorcycle Repair: shifting, yamaha fzr600, clutch assembly

Question
I have a 1991 Yamaha fzr600.When you shift it into any gear the neutral light goes out and it feels like its clicking into gear but wont go anywhere when you release the clutch.Would you have any suggestions as what I can check? Thanks

Answer
Steve,
  1) you may be dealing with a slipping clutch because of a) wear b) incorrectly adjusted clutch cable or c) a broken part of the clutch assembly.
  2) you could have an internal gearbox problem, if this is the case, you are probably dealing with a broken shifting fork.

Be absoulutly sure you've exhausted "1" before splitting the case.
