Motorcycle Repair: Front Brakes, yamaha venture royale, hi ed

Question
I have taken the calipers apart, removed pistons and cleaned, did not remove seals and clean under them because the pistons didn't seem overly dirty.
The problem I am having is the pistons will not retract after applying the brakes and releasing.
Also changed out all brake fluid and blead the brakes properly. Still have brakes locking up.
This is a 1986 Yamaha Venture Royale XVZ1300DS

Answer
Hi Ed.
Fact of the matter, as far as the pistons retracting, they won't do it so much that you would normally notice.  If the brakes are installed and completely locking up the wheel even after they have been released, then that is a whole different story.

Based on what you are telling me, the only thing causing the problem has to be behind those seals that you didn't remove.  There could be a problem caused by normal deterioration of the rubber.  Remember that it doesn't take a lot of contamination to mess up the brakes.

Check that out and see what happens.
Good luck.
