Nissan Repair: 2000 Nissan Altima 2.5 L GXE 4 Door Sedan, gasoline leak, orrin gordon

Question
QUESTION: Hi Calvin:

Car has 189 K on it.  Recently, I discovered a Gasoline Leak.  I have started to look for a new Used Car.   Can you suggest a short term, Cheap fix, until I purchase another vehicle?  Having spent Over $3K since December in repair bills, you can probably understand... my question.

Thank You,

Orrin Gordon

ANSWER: Hi Orrin -

Have you determined the location of this leak? Only then we can assess the cost for repair. Normally it is a fuel line that has cracked. If that is the case the replacement will not be that expensive, however again this depends on the location of the leaking hose.

Hope this helps -

QUESTION: Hi Calvin:

I have not been able to determine the location of the leak yet.  Hopefully sometime this week, I will have some kind of determination.

First time I noticed the leak, was the last week of August, when front end was parked higher the back end.

I had to go to work that day so I parked the car with the back end higher and front lower.  No Gasoline Leak.

I have been putting in only 5 - 6 gallons of fuel at a time.  Last week and today, I noticed the leak at the gasoline station while adding fuel, yet, when it is parked as mentioned no leak.....

I do not know if that provides you enough information.

Thank you so much for the information you have provided.

Orrin

Answer
Hi Orrin -

If it leaks only when adding fuel, I would check the hoses on top of the fuel tank, and the main inlet hose. They are all rubber. Also you have a vent hose for the tank as well. You will have to drop the fuel tank a bit to access these hoses.

Hope this heslps -
