Nissan Repair: replacing cracked engine block, honda forum, honda vehicles

Question
Thanks much for the reply. I realize it's a Nissan forum but no one is answering on the Honda forum! The engine block is cracked, the water pump was leaking and that's being replaced. Would the dealer be the best place to do this? I was told the warranty would hold. Is there a chance other engine components are broken (not in the block). Pardon my ignorance. I guess it's a hairy thing to take out an engine. I just wish this had been discovered earlier. It was discovered after all the body work was finished and we were told we were lucky the engine was aok! My other question is- if something were to go wrong with this repair would I know it in the first year or is it something that could lurk? Obviously I am concerned that my car will never be the same and I understand how complicated a repair this is. Thank you again for the reply, was very helpful.

Answer
Hi Yuki -

It's OK. I am very familiar with Honda vehicles too. If this will be covered by insurance, then the dealer would probably be the best place. I usually recommend outside repair shops (provided they have good credentials) because of the reduced cost. As I mentioned this is a big job, and you will need someone very competent to do the job. There is a chance that other components might have been impacted, but I am hoping that the dealer mechanics will notice it when the repair is being done. You might want to remind them of such, however ensure they document that it was caused by the collision, or the insurance may not pick up that part of the repair.

One can never be sure that the engine will be the same after this, but if the repair is done professionally, the chances of failure are greatly reduced. Another option would be to fix the car up and turn around and sell it, and start over with a new car. Of course this would be difficult if you have an emotional attachment to the vehicle, but another option.

Hope this helps -
and good luck
