Nissan Repair: 96 maxima starrting issues, auto parts store, mechanic

Sometimes the car will start up no problem other days you turn the key and nothing doesnt crank at all. Once you turn the key on and off several times it will start. What could this be. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi Lisa -

This could be a couple things - either the ignition switch, or the starter. You will need a 12V light tester to determine which of the 2 is faulty. When you turn the key and it does not start, do you hear anything, like clicking?

Do you have access to a 12v tester? If so, I can walk you through the diagnostic, or you can purchase one at any auto parts store. Should be only a few dollars.

Or, if you take your car to a mechanic, ensure he tests both and changes only one, not both.
