Nissan Repair: Two questions: Water inside kick panels and cold start lifter noice?, nissan 4x4, kick panels

Question
I have a 1991 nissan 4x4 d21 hardbody king cab. I have water in the lower part of my door frame on the driver side. I have a sun roof. I have had this truck for years this is the first year that I have heard this. Where is the drains at?? or any other info you can give me about this??
Every now and then (more Now then then) LOL. In the morning I get a lifter noise then it goes away within a few seconds. Is there anything I can do about this? the old truck has a few miles on it. All hard miles. Once a week for the last 8 years I have used it to haul about 3+ thousand pounds around in the truck with a trailer. I never overload the truck and never drive it hard or take off hard with a load. Just about a year ago it started doing this. Spec: Oil changed every 3 to 4 thousand miles, tune up every year. Timing Belt with bearing, water pump, thermo changed every 60 to 70 thousand miles etc.. I do have a rear main seal licking about half a quart every 3 to 4 months. What you think?? o it doesnt smoke on cold startes and she has 250000 mile on her. other then that it run great. Praise GOD

Answer
Hi Michael -

I assume you notice the water when it rains? If so, then either the seal for the sun roof is leaking, or the drain hole is clogged. There is a network of drains that travel inside the roof of the car to the posts on the side.

If all is well on those drains, check below the windshield where the water drains. Sometimes that becomes rusted out and it leaks in the vehicle.

A good test is to shoot a water hose in certain areas, concentrate on small areas at a time, wait a few minutes to see if there is an interior leak.

As for the oil, the lifters probably have started to collapse, but try an additive called AT205 (Carquest has it). Does wonders. That also expands the seals, so it just might reduce or eliminate the oil leak you have.

Hope this helps -
