Nissan Repair: 2000 Maxima Gauges freezing, fuel gauge, harness connector

Hi.  I have a 2000 Maxima that has an problem with gauges freezing.  It seems all of them except the fuel gauge.  Sometimes they lock at speed and rpm with gibberish on the odometer and other times, everything goes to zero and the odometer goes blank.  If the cruise control is on, it drops out and the "set" light starts flashing.  Normally after a shutdown and restart, everything works fine again for a while. Any ideas?

I have a 2000 Maxima and from what you describe it is either the harness connector on the back of the cluster is corroded and or loose.  Or, the cluster power supply/transformer has failed or is in the process of failing.  Do a google and you can source a cluster if that is the problem.  If you can clean the terminals on the cluster and harness connector with an eraser and blow off the dust you might get lucky.
