Nissan Repair: 2000 Nissan Sentra w/Auto Transmission, controller area network, nissan sentra

Question
My Sentra is stuck in third gear and my OBDII reader shows a trouble code of P1605. What is the problem/solution?

Answer
Ron,

Nissan locks the transmission in third gear to keep it from getting damaged any more than what is going on.  A P1605 is the (A/T Diagnosis Communication Line). Unfortunately, you need the Consult II scantool from Nissan to read the specific code for the transmission.  The Controller Area Network on the Nissan goes beyond On Board Diagnostics II.  Now, you could go to Cottman Transmission or your dealer to have them read the transmission code. Nissan will charge you something like $100 bucks to read them.  My bet is the transmission control computer, the harness or a solenoid in the valve body.  But, the code says Diagnosis Communication Line.
